Jet Set’s Canadian ‘Webdreams’
The ten-episode third season, which focuses on Internet porn, debuts September 5 on Canadian cable channel Showcase.
Performer-turned-director Chad Donovan and former performer and Jet Set head of production Chris Steele are among gay industry names to be featured on the show.
“Full of character and real-life drama, ‘Webdreams’ fans will not be disappointed by this popular fly-on-the-wall look at the online world of adult entertainment,” Vice President of Factual Content for Canwest Broadcasting Michael Kot said.
Steele told XBIZ a “Webdreams” camera crew began taping at a Jet Set production meeting in June 2007 and filmed periodically until February 2008.
The eight-month production also followed staffers to Berlin for the Venus Erotic Expo; to Argentina for a shoot with Donovan; and to the GAYVN Awards in San Francisco.
“We were called out of the blue by a producer because they were looking for a gay company in our area,” Steele said, adding that 2008 has turned out to be “the year of reality shows at Jet Set.”
Company exclusive Aaron James was featured earlier this year on an episode of the MTV documentary series “True Life” titled “I’m in the Sex Industry.”
Steele noted, at one point, the company had camera crews from MTV and “Webdreams” filming simultaneously during a trip to Las Vegas for the Adult Entertainment Expo. James is expected to feature in “Webdreams” this season as well.
Steele said the MTV segment, with multiple rebroadcasts, have produced a noticeable boost to Jet Set’s website traffic, as well as “a major increase in model applications among 18-22 year-old guys.
“Since ‘Webdreams’ is on Canadian television we are not sure what to expect,” in terms of media exposure,” Steele said. “But the show is syndicated into other major markets worldwide, so overall it can only help to enhance our brand awareness with the public.”
“Webdreams” was created by Michael Kronish, and is produced by Kronish with Galafilm Inc. in association with Showcase and the Canadian Television Fund.
